ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) Selection for Waterproof BLDC Motor
- A BLDC motor can be used with an ESC as long as its speed does not exceed the ESC’s limit.
- BLDC motor speed = Battery Voltage × KV value;
Stator speed = Battery Voltage × KV value × Pole Pairs.
- The maximum speed limit of the V4 series ESC is 60,000 ERPM.
The maximum speed limit of the V6 series ESC is 150,000 ERPM.
- If a BLDC motor’s maximum speed surpasses the ESC’s limit, it is possible to match them by lowering the motor’s operating voltage. However, this is not recommended, as it prevents the motor from functioning as a true brushless DC motor.

Q: How to mount and connect an outrunner BLDC motor properly?
A: To mount and connect an outrunner BLDC motor properly, first secure the motor firmly to a rigid frame or motor mount using screws that match the mounting holes, ensuring alignment to prevent vibration. Make sure the motor shaft is correctly coupled with the load (such as a propeller, pulley, or wheel) using a clamp, keyway, or adapter, and check that it spins freely without obstruction. For electrical connection, match the three motor wires to the ESC (electronic speed controller) outputs; the order determines rotation direction, which can be reversed by swapping any two wires. Connect the ESC to a suitable battery (voltage and current rating must match the motor), and ensure good cooling for both BLDC motor and ESC. Always test the setup at low speed first to confirm proper rotation, smooth operation, and secure mounting before full-load use.
