ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) Selection for Waterproof BLDC Motor
- A BLDC motor can be used with an ESC as long as its speed does not exceed the ESC’s limit.
- BLDC motor speed = Battery Voltage × KV value;
Stator speed = Battery Voltage × KV value × Pole Pairs.
- The maximum speed limit of the V4 series ESC is 60,000 ERPM.
The maximum speed limit of the V6 series ESC is 150,000 ERPM.
- If a BLDC motor’s maximum speed surpasses the ESC’s limit, it is possible to match them by lowering the motor’s operating voltage. However, this is not recommended, as it prevents the motor from functioning as a true brushless DC motor.

Applications
Q: How to choose the right propeller for a waterproof BLDC motor?
A: When choosing a propeller or thruster for a waterproof BLDC motor, it’s important to match the propeller size and pitch with the motor’s KV rating, power, and voltage range. A larger diameter or higher pitch propeller provides more thrust but increases load on the BLDC motor, while a smaller or lower pitch propeller reduces load and improves efficiency. Always balance your performance needs—such as speed for surfboards or control for underwater robots—with the motor’s specifications to ensure safe and efficient operation.
